Five days is the length many travellers settle on once they realise a short weekend will not do Tanzania justice. It allows a relaxed loop of the northern parks, usually with a full day at the Ngorongoro Crater, and it leaves enough slack that the drives do not feel rushed. This page explains what a five-day package normally contains and how to choose between styles. It also shows where packages differ so that you can compare options with confidence.

What a five-day package normally covers
A package of this length generally includes accommodation, park entry, a private or shared safari vehicle with a driver-guide, meals as specified, and airport or hotel transfers. What is excluded often includes international flights, visas, tips and personal items.
Always ask for the inclusions and exclusions in writing so you can compare like with like.
- Accommodation each night
- Park entry and vehicle
- Driver-guide
- Meals as specified
Ways to spend the five days
One option is to use road travel to link Tarangire, Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater at a relaxed pace. Another is to prioritise fewer parks and spend longer in each, which reduces packing and unpacking.
If the Serengeti is the goal, five days is more realistic with a fly-in leg, as the overland journey is long and takes time from the parks.
Budget, mid-range or luxury
The same route can be done as camping, comfortable lodges or high-end camps. The differences are in accommodation, facilities and often the group size or vehicle arrangement.

Timing your trip
Wildlife viewing is possible all year, but conditions change. The dry months typically make animals easier to find around water, while the green season brings fresh landscapes and fewer visitors, though some roads become more challenging.
Tell us your travel month and we will suggest which parks fit it best.
What affects the quality of a package
Two packages with the same route can feel very different. The experience depends on the guide, the condition and layout of the vehicle, group size, the position of your accommodation and how much time is spent actually watching wildlife.
Reading about a company, asking questions and requesting a clear written plan will tell you more than a headline summary. Good operators answer plainly and do not oversell.

Frequently asked questions
What is included in a 5-day safari?
Typically accommodation, park entry, a vehicle with a driver-guide, meals as stated and transfers. Flights, visas, insurance and tips are usually separate. Ask for a written list of inclusions before you compare quotes. Check each line carefully before you confirm. Some routes need an early start.
Can I see the Serengeti in 5 days?
Yes, most reliably by flying in, which saves driving time. By road it is possible on some routes but leaves less time for game drives, so we usually advise a longer trip for that plan. Travel insurance is also strongly advised.
Is a private or shared vehicle better?
Private vehicles offer control over timing and stops, and suit photographers and families. Shared departures can be more economical and sociable. It depends on your priorities and group. Discuss your priorities with us before deciding.
Can a 5-day safari include a night game drive?
Night drives are only allowed in certain areas outside the main national parks, and rules change. If this appeals, we can check what is currently possible and where it fits your route.
